Tokyo DisneySEA, Part 1

Located right next to the Tokyo Disneyland and easily to arrive by a monorail is Tokyo DineySEA, which ended its ten year anniversary celebrations just a few weeks ago. This amusement park, situated right on the bay of Tokyo, is fully dedicated to the oceans and seas around the world.

Venice in Japan
The different areas are themed as harbours, connected by more then ten hectares of lakes and waterways. With more than 155 million litres of water it is the biggest water body within a Disney park worldwide. An overall investment of more than three billion Euro was spent to create this 70 hectares big world of dreams within four years. No costs or efforts were too great to create a scenic design with lots of details so that Tokyo DisenySEA is named the most lavish themed park in the world among fans.

Right behind the entrance area, the Mediterranean Harbor is waiting with a big lake, bordered by the Italian hotel Mira Costa on one side if it. With its small alleys, canals, the typical gondolas, and, of course, Italian ice crème, a Venetian feeling arouses and the guests are set in the right mood for a holiday here at Porto Paradiso. On the other side of the lake a Renaissance fort with golden domes is looming. Besides a Foucault pendulum, a planetarium, and da Vinci's flying machine, the attraction Leonardo Challenge is waiting here to be explored. In front of the fort there are sailing boats of Italian explorers are anchored, while in the back Mount Prometheus, a giant volcano, is enthroned, which is erupting from time to time with a loud rumbling. The lake is also home to fabulous shows like The Legend of Mythica, in which Mickey and Co. are staging on boats and jet skies.

On the Nautilus

The Nautilus has landed
By entering the giant massif of volcanic rock at Mount Prometheus everything in Mysterious Island reminds at Jules Verne's book "Vulcania”. Totally isolated from the rest of the world a lake can be found within the cirque of the volcano – the secret anchorage of the Nautilus from the stories of 20.000 leagues under the sea. This tremendous setting is offering a breathtaking look and is nearly impossible to describe. In the attraction dedicated to this story a undersea trip is done, sitting in small submarines. Without letting the cat out of the bag: the vehicles are not diving down, but with a bunch of spectacular special effects the illusion gets perfect. The plunging into the water can be felt and air bubbles in front of the bull's-eye be seen. Arrived at the sea bottom guests can control a small search light interactively, so that every trip is different. At the end a giant octopus is attacking the boat and and it gets ticklish.

Mysterious Island's main attraction (and the one of the whole park) is located close to the Nautilus. In Journey to the Center of the Earth an exploration similar to the one in the eponymous film has to be absolved. Because there are queues of three or four hours very often, a Disney Fastpass is recommended. After waiting in a cave, the trips takes the guests down about one mile under the earth's surface into a base camp. From here tunnels are blazing a trail deeper into the bowels of the earth, where mysterious shining mushrooms are illuminating the place strangely and some reptile-like creatures are up to no good. Suddenly a tunnel is caving in and the vehicle has to alter its route, so that it ends in a magma cavern. Attacked by a giant monster, the car accelerates unforeseen and is shot up onto the earth's surface in a high speed ride.

King Triton's empire

Right behind the volcano the more child-friendly zone Mermaid Lagoon is situated. Besides Flounders kids coaster and a flat ride the whole theme area is build indoor, so that even on rainy days King Triton can invite into his empire. The lovingly decorated hall is home to a play ground and a large number of different attractions for kids, all themed after the fish of the film "The little Mermaid”. Interesting for grown ups as well is the musical production at the Mermaid Lagoon Theatre, where selected scenes of the film get staged.

Across from here the Arabic Harbour can be found. In a scene inspired by Disney's Aladdin, visitors can dander at an Arabic bazaar in the streets of Agrabah. The design is on an fascinating high level as well here. If there was not the double-decker carousel with camels and the flying carpets attraction, it could only hardly be spotted that this all is actually an amusement park. At the Magic Lamp Theatre The Genie invites to a sort of live show with 3D cinema. A gratis audio device with subtitles is offered to foreign visitors, so the whole story is easy to follow.

Tokyo DisneySea
Be Sindbad's guest
At Sindbad's Storybook Voyage the whole family can take a journey on a boat through the stories of the Sailor's life. Several years ago the cute tiger Chandu was added to the scenes as a faithful companion, so that even children have something to focus on. The attraction is described best as a mixture of the two rides It's a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean, which both can be found at the neighbouring Tokyo Disneyland. Even though it is designed rather realistic, the trip has got a storybook charm anyway: Sindbad is singing the whole time a catchy tune. On his journeys through the Seven Seas Sindbad encounters mermaids, the Bird Rok, an Indian maharajah, a giant in a treasure cave and many more. A high standard of technique causes realistic movements of the animatronics.
