Quassy Amusement Park

Roller coaster "Wooden Warrior"
The USA: for many people a real coaster-heaven. Again and again the big players among the amusement parks create new thrilling roller coasters which all pass daring manoeuvres and therefore impress the guests by their size and speed, regardless if they are made of wood or steel, if flying or inverted, or if they rush through multiple loops. Some of these parks will be presented on Parkscout in random order. The one to start with is the traditional Quassy Amusement Park, which is primarily known for its roller coaster "Wooden Warrior”.

The rather small amusement park is located approximately 160 kilometres north-easterly of New York City in Connecticut, situated lovely at the waterside of Lake Quassapaug. The environment and the access road to the park are both quite forested and a bit secluded, so that by the landscape itself a beautiful destination waits for the guests to be explored.

The few attractions are not spectacular, but, however, provide amusement for at least some hours. Besides a swingboat, a small drop tower and some other carousels, guests will find a water coaster, whose ride is in complete darkness, as well as a small area with water slides and a water playground. But the absolute highlight is the roller coaster "Wooden Warrior”. And exactly this attraction is making Quassy Amusement Park worth a visit for coaster enthusiasts, because a brilliant construction is waiting for them. The woody is – same to the rest of the attractions in the park – small: with a total height of about 11 metres and a track length of 366 metres it is truly not a record holder, but the ride on this coaster is fantastic and features a lot of airtime.

Relaxing at the lake

Take a rest between roller coaster and wood land

The L-shaped layout of the track is surrounded by a great picnic grove, which is an inherent part of many US parks' service offering and can be hired for parties and happenings. It is often used when students visit the amusement park, and it is also suitable for business festivities, birthday parties or other occasions. The beautiful location invites to take a rest: This lawn offers a great panoramic view of the roller coaster on the one side and on the other it is surrounded by many trees.

But there is also the possibility to visit the park just for some time off, because there is no entrance fee to the park. Guests can buy tickets for the attractions separately or they purchase a daypass, which includes all the rides. Some quiet moments can be found in the small restaurant at the lake with its comfortable patio or by hiring a pedal boat for a tour on the lake. The staff is – likely to most of the smaller parks – notedly kind and creates a nearly familiar atmosphere. People who are close-by should definitely visit this scenically beautiful park: a trip on "Wooden Warrior” is a very special experience.
