Phantasialand Wintertraum 2013/2014

The smell of freshly roasted chestnuts is in the air while the taste of mulled wine, punch and waffles evoke the Christmas spirit, huge snow heaps paint the streets white, children ice-skate on a large ice rink in a small forest glade and a Big Band intones Christmas carols that go straight to the heart. It is about time again ... the German theme park Phantasialand celebrates the festive holiday season this year again with "Wintertraum” - A winter's dream of a very special kind.

Deco elements known from previous Christmas seasons, such as fire-spying ice dragons in the Chinese theme area, funny snowmen around the fantasy world of Wuze Town or the garishly colourful illumination in the Mexican Wild West town, have of course returned again to enhance this highly enjoyable atmosphere. By using LED spotlights, the individual building facades circling the square named Kaiserplatz bath the whole setting in a magical light that can additionally change its colour. Furthermore, the wave swinger and the likewise colourfully illuminated water fountain beneath it, along with the nearby, giant as ever, Christmas tree dressed in a classic warm-white fairy light, provide a one-of-a-kind scenery.

Ice in Berlin

The ice rink also found its way back to the wintry Berlin theme area: Surrounded by numerous fir trees and huge snow heaps, the big rink does completely without boundaries and really seems like a small frozen see in a forest glade, and not like an artificial ice rink in the middle of an amusement park at all. If the wave swinger, that can sometimes be seen above the fir tree tops, was not there – the illusion would be perfect. Small benches and chairs placed on "the edge of the forest” invite visitors to take a little rest – imagining themselves to be in a winter sports resort somewhere in the Alps. This surrounding represents the perfect backdrop for the heart-warming evening show "Die magische Rose" ("The magical rose") that, every evening, marks the great finale with fireworks.

Speaking of shows: As expected, Phantasialand's theatres have quite something in store for the audience this winter season again. Apart from the open air performance mentioned above, there are the ice skating show "Winterfeelings on Ice”, the comedy varieté act "Crazy Christmas”, Chinese acrobatics and the new singing and dancing show "5 vor Weihnachten". And what would a visit to Phantasialand be without enjoying its outstanding gastronomic delights? A flying visit to the Christmas stalls, providing all conceivable festive delicacies at Kaiserplatz, is particularly advisable.

Phantasialand's winter opening proves once again that a visit outside the peak season is a good idea or, to put it another way, a pleasure for all the senses. Except for the water rides, all attractions are open (weather permitting). The atmosphere full of street acts, music and the accentuated illumination is actually even better, way more glorious than in July or August – all the more so as the park opens until 8 p.m. "Come, all ye children” would be just the right song to enhance the anticipation of this wonderful event.
