Jin Jiang Action Park: Looking for action?

Jin Jiang Action Park, sure to be the most singular park to be found in the area closest to the centre of the luminous city of Shanghai, is located where it is least expected, namely crammed between cement, huge residential buildings, autobahns and the noisy surrounding of the city. Its range of attractions and its significant coasters make it the place to be when stepping into China's largest city by population.

In the world of municipal parks Jin Jiang Action Park is likely to be a leader, if not the biggest of the leaders. Located in the heart of the city at the same named metro station (line 1, red), the entrance to paradise for amusement park enthusiasts is priceless and it is a trump card with which they know well how to play in this place.

The Chinese version of It's a Small World
Constructed in 1985, when a generation of Shanghainese felt eager to demonstrate to the entire world that the gates of the Asian Chinese dragon was in the process of opening up as a huge economic and social showcase, Jin Jiang Action Park has continuously been able to renew and restore itself up to the present day. Maybe it lost a bit of magic in pursuit of the construction of big structures, but it doubtlessly offers a price/performance ratio which is hard to beat.

The park has some goodies in store for all age ranges: From kids and basic attractions to be found near the entrance in a more than decent kiddie area over water and family attractions that, even though not ostentatious at all, hit the bull's eye (unforgettable the "made-in-China" copy of Disney's It's a Small World) to thrilling and world-class attractions where Shanghai's fun park by far exceeds its potential competitors and wins the favour of China's younger generations.

Large cement tracts

Jing Jiang Action Park has one problem that the majority of parks at global level generally have to face: this amusement park has too many empty spaces. There are large asphalt and cement tracts, walkways fully covered with trees which can, however, barely counter the warm climate of the polluted city. It seems as though someone would have commenced to build a model in a vast land extension and, all of the sudden, was left without pieces to finish, leaving totally useless spaces in sight of the visitors.

However, the election of its coasters reveals a certain touch and criteria in the middle of the apparent chaos that prevails in the majority of Asian parks: Vekoma's Giant Inverted Loop (the fifth coaster in the world) is a cardiac-crazy machine and at the same time one of the very few technical delights. An equally important role plays Zamperla's vibrant Moto Launch Coaster (just opposite of the giant yellow and blue inverted coaster), a Shuttle Coaster (literally next to the autobahn) or the loud but appealing Powered Dive Coaster in the middle of artificial rocks full of dinosaurs.

Jin Jiang Action Park definitely offers a one-of-a-kind experience, a generous portion of leisure in its purest state and the singularity of gathering in an extraordinary place, a steel and cement jungle called Shanghai. Wearing comfortable footwear is mandatory!

Information on the writer Xavi Rodríguez (Jivo)

Xavi Rodríguez, aged 28, decided on a beautiful day to travel and cover one by one the parks on his way around the world. He still is fascinated by the magic and charm of each and every one of them. He has been furnishing his blog bloggercoaster.com with writings that intend to reflect his personal and critical point of view, without being tied to any park in particular, offering the chance to get to know new all types of parks ranging from the unknown to the most well-known. As he loves the thematical quality, the old school touch and the detailed work, he confesses that he is a fan of the unmistakable European style.
