Near misses right at the entrance gates
If you are looking for records of any kind, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, is the place to discover. Many of the 15 operating roller coasters were record holders when opening at the amusement park located on a peninsula at the Lake Eri and keep thrilling the guests. Now the coaster heaven has revealed their new project, the wing coaster "GateKeeper”, which – of course – will break records again.

The turquoise coaster will climb 51.8 metres high into the sky, drop 50 metres down to the earth, and reach a maximum speed of 107.8 km/h through its 1269.2 metres long track. This will make it the world's tallest, fastest and longest wing coaster. Even if this time roller coaster enthusiasts will not get blessed with an "overall record coaster”, the facts of the new Bolliger & Mabillard fun machine still looks impressive.

And so does the setting: located right in the entrance area of the park, the cars rush directly over the entrance buildings, combined with two near miss fly-throughs, while getting twisted upside down in one of six inversions in total, before changing the direction and flying over the entrance for a second time. Visitors will be welcomed by this thrilling and impressive element, when entering the park, which really makes "GateKeeper” a reasonable name for the 2013's addition.

Animated POV of "GateKeeper"

Unfortunately the "Disaster Transport” had to give way for the new coaster at the end of July after more then 27 years, so that there are now only three Intamin Swiss Bob operating worldwide. But still Cedar Point has got a great variety of roller coasters to offer and "GateKeeper” will fit perfectly into the park's portfolio. Time will tell if the new record coaster fulfils the expectations and makes its riders scream.
