Cedar Point

The USA: for many people a real coaster-heaven. Again and again the big players among the amusement parks create new thrilling roller coasters which all pass daring manoeuvres and therefore impress the guests by their size and speed, regardless if they are made of wood or steel, if flying or inverted, or if they rush through multiple loops. Some of these parks will be presented on Parkscout in random order. Smaller amusement parks situated in the land of unlimited possibilities are also included. This time the journey leads to Cedar Point known as the world's roller coaster capital.

It is hard to say whether Cedar Point, Six Flags Magic Mountain, or Six Flags Great Adventure provides the best coasters. Each of these three thrilling amusement parks boasts with special and extraordinary roller coasters. What makes Cedar Point unique is its location on Lake Erie peninsula in the state of Ohio. Its lakeside is simply stunning as can be seen, above all, when the rides make their way up on top of the lift hill, offering a great view over the water. Visitors who decide to stay overnight at the resort, will additionally have the opportunity to take a walk along the beach at night or swim some laps in the lake at hot day temperatures.

Opened in 1870 as a bathhouse, Cedar Point introduced its first roller coaster "Switchback Railway" in 1892. The 364-acre (147 ha) amusement park currently has a world-record 75 rides, including 17 roller coasters. In the past, the park strived to become number one in the coaster industry by building giant steel constructions. It worked out. When built in 1989, the hyper roller coaster "MagnumXL-200" set a world record with its height of 205 ft (62 m). Another record-breaking coasters followed in 2000 with the giga roller coaster "Millenium Force", and in 2003 with "Top Thrill Dragster". The latter is a one-of-a-kind launch coaster concerning the speed and height, and made the park scene sit up and take notice. However, when "Kingda Ka" was launched in Six Flags Great Adventure a bit later, the record was topped and it became quite clear that the next challenge called for innovation. By introducing "Maverick" in 2007, Cedar Point proved that it is still at the forefront. This launched coaster features some peculiar elements with dynamic and thrill – there is hardly any other one that has such an exciting layout. Naturally, a park of this size also has to have a variety of water rides and flat rides as well as an own water park.

As a matter of principle, visitors to Cedar Point will enjoy a day full of thrill and adventure thanks to its wide range of attractions. Yet the extensive additional offer often becomes a minor matter – since the second-oldest operating amusement park in the United States focuses primarily on coasters.
