The everlasting hunt for record-breaking attractions induced the amusement park Kings Island in Ohio to announce its meanwhile 15th roller coaster last week. The 24 million Dollar investment is going to be the longest inverted roller coaster in the world, and is expected to be responsible for an increase in visitors from April 2014 onwards.

Within almost three minutes, "Banshee" will send thrill seekers screaming through a track of 1,250 m at speeds up to 110 km/h and, due to the hilly terrain, there will be a height difference of roughly 64 m although the ride itself merely towers a bit more than 50 m. A total of three trains should presumably accommodate approximately 1,650 riders per hour. Bolliger & Mabillard is encharged with the construction, and the new thrill machine especially designed for Kings Island is going to stand out for having seven mind-bending inversions. What will distinguish "Banshee" from other coasters is that the top speed is not reached when thundering down the first drop, but instead, halfway through the ride's course – an indication for the quite powerful fairy woman from Ohio.

The construction of the new female-inspired coaster for 2014 is already well underway in the Action Zone area of Kings Island. "Banshee reflects our commitment to providing the best in world-class thrills and value for our guests and is an investment in the Ohio tourism industry," Kings Island’s vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. "People from around the world will plan a visit to Ohio next summer specifically to experience this ride."
