The roots of Burgers' Zoo lie in 's-Heerenberg which is where in 1913 the animal loving Johan Burger, at the request of his friends, opened his animal collection to the public. Today, the zoo spans more than 45 acres and houses more than three thousand animals. Among the inhabitants of the zoo are all three great ape species, smaller monkeys, bongos, elephants, sea lions, penguins, predators, and cattle.

Opening hours and pricing
Burgers’ Zoo is open every day throughout the year from 9am. Closing time: From 1st April to 31st October 2012 at 7pm and from 1st November 2012 to 31st March 2013 at dusk (frequently around 5pm).

Human-wild life interaction like no other
I had never had a chance to be so close to wild animals before. This is because I have spent all my life in a town and so when my son suggested that we should visit Burgers Zoo, I actually saw it as a golden opportunity to spend a moment of a life time in the park. What was the most amazing thing about this zoo is that it is set in a very clean and quiet environment free from the hassles of day to day life.
At the park I bought a family ticket that was going for $80 for all packages offered in the zoo. We started our nature walk by visiting the big five stand. Here we had a rare opportunity of facing a lion face to face. We then proceeded to the aquatic life stand. When all was said and down, we were happy for having a great family day out.

This is the best zoo in The Netherlands. You will see the animals in there own environment. If your lucky you will see the tiger looking for food and the rino's running after there pups.

I think this is one of the best zoo's I've ever been to and a highly recommended place to visit if you're holidaying in the Netherlands with children.
The park has different areas like Desert area, safari area where you would see giraffe and zebras.
Looking at the details of the different themes in the zoo, one can easily justify the high entrance fees.
